It was a complete blast. We hung out with a local Texas artist and all around great guy Joe Eisma (be sure to check out his site). I got to meet a few Suicide Girls. I got to meet my favorite comic book artist, Josh Howard, of course I got him to sign some of his books. I could do multiple post's about the weekend and all the cool things I saw, the Swag I picked up, the awesome people I got meet. Here are some Pics...

Super Secret Project
It's no secret that I'm working on my own comic book. I've been playing around with the idea and concept art for a few years. Yeah, years....but now I have decided to go ahead and complete it. So with some encouragement from my friends and lots of patience from myself. I am moving forward with the "Super Secret Project" I will post updates and artwork here as I go. For now I'm just posting some images I've drawn recently...they may be from some of my comic book pages... or not. OK more than likely they are, since that's primarily what I've been working on lately...that and the Horror Icons Artist Trading Cards. (I've got a few more I want to complete before Halloween)

It's only a dream!
Freddy Krueger from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" You hope it's only a dream. This series started out when I was a teenager. Freddy was scary, or the idea of Freddy was scary, I'm not sure which. I just remember the one dream I had with him in it. I fell asleep in front of the TV while Nightmare 3 (Dram Warriors) was on. So I heard what was on the TV while I was sleeping and it affected the dream. Now some 20 + years latter, I can still remember the dream...DAMN! Well obviously I didn't die...so it is only a dream.....whew. You think Robert Englund (the guy who played Freddy) had crazy dreams from playing him? Obviously Freddy Krueger is my all time favorite creepy scary bad guy. So here he is.
Yes, the card was created by the usual process...I think I'm just gonna stop posting the process, unless I actually do something different.

"Chi Chi Chi - Ah Ah Ah"
Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" Movies. I don't know why that noise was always in the background when he was around. But lemme tell ya. If I was out in the woods, and heard that sound...yep, I'd probably leave a puddle as I ran off screaming....ok not really I'm not that much of a coward... But Yeah, I'd run, I'd put a hole in the wall from running through it. Who wasn't a little scared by the Friday the 13th movies. I remember watching some of these at my friends house with some girls.....Heck yeah, we got to snuggle up with them before the movie was over. That was the best part of watching scary movies with the girls.
Usual Process....again (Hey, I'm a creature of habit).

Happy Halloween
Micheal Meyers from the "Halloween" movies. Yeah I can't remember him ever speaking or making a noise for that matter, so we get Happy Halloween for the title. This guy gave me the creeps as a child. Ok, be honest, if you saw a guy walking down the street with this mask on, you'd run. I'm not gonna lie... I would.
Usual process - see "Seven Day's" Post.

"Would you like to play a game?"
"Seven Days"
Samara Morgan from "THE RING" - After you watch her crazy weird video, you'll get a phone call and all she will say is "Seven Days" which is how long you have to live, and all kinds of craziness will happen to you during those last seven days. So if you watch the video...don't answer the phone. Ok seriously the first time I watched the ring, I watched it alond in my living room with the lights off. After the movie my phone rang, and I thought..."Oh Hell NO! I'm not answering that" I think the first movie was good, and even had some potential. The ending was pretty creepy. Then they messed up with the second....Damn.
Ok, usual process (which at some point in the future I will post a step by step detailed process). Pencilled on a card template I made with the computer. The template is printed on standard card stock. Roughed out with my trusty Staedtler Lead Holder w/ 2H Lead. Detail with my favorite Staedtler 0.5 mm Automatic pencil with 0.5 2H lead (I like these to be Hypodermic sharp), Inked with mosty the Koh-I-Nor Rapidograph technical pens with the Black India Ink. Colored with the Prisma Color Markers.

Aayla Secura
Aayla Secura, Jedi Knight. I think she had alot of potential as a character and didn't get enough screen time in episode II or episode III. Hopefully in the Clone Wars Cartoon coming in October we will get to see more of here. Ok, drawn on 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock, with 2H Lead Holder, Detailed with an Automatic Pencil (they stay sharp)using 2H Lead (it's my favorite Lead) Inked with Rapidograph Technical Pens and colored with Prismacolor markers.

Ahoska Tano
I wanted to do a series of drawing for the upcoming Star Wars Clone Wars movie. The first one is the newest character Ashoka Tano, who is actually Anikin's Padawan learner. She was a fun character to draw and bit challenging to color. Sketched in pencil, inked w/ technical pens, colored with prisma color markers.

Weapons of Choice
**This was orginally posted in my old blog, but since this about the creative process, I thought I should start at the beginning, with what I use to create my artwork.**
Ok, so I have had some people ask me what I use to draw with. Well they aren’t looking for the standard "pencil" reply that I have been known to give. So here it is, the arsenal or at least the main parts of it. First I typically use the Automatic Pencil .05 mm usually loaded with 2h or h lead. I typically use the Staedtler pencil. For quicker or rougher sketches/layouts I use the Lead Holder with, again a 2H or H lead. With the Lead Holders you of course need the Lead Pointer. Then for the mistakes, (yep they happen)I have a few erasers. I've got the Tuff Stick clickable stick eraser and the Pentel Clic Stick Erasers. They are basically the same, the main difference I have noticed is the Tuff Stick is more solid and smaller; which for me equals more control. The Clic Stick's are not a firm, and honestly I've broken off more tips with the Clic Sticks than the Tuff Sticks. For the really big mistakes I've got a large rubber eraser again Staedtler, and a kneaded eraser for the smudges. Add in an eraser shield to protect the lines you want to keep and you've got my secret formula for cleaning up your basic line work. Next I Ink the lines using various methods. If I'm going for the high quality work I use the Rapidograph Technical pens. I'm more of a Technical Inker; however I have used the Pen Nibs before. So I have the Pen nibs shown with a standard holder, I also have the ever popular Hunt Crowquil 102 pen. I don't feel that I have as much control with the pen nibs, but I'm working on that. Also there are brushes for inking larger areas. Some artists use nothing but brushes to ink their work. I have the upmost respect for them. That takes an incredibly talented and steady hand. My preference for ink is Higgins Black India Ink, I also use the Pelikan India ink at times. Of course there are lots of different ruling tools. Rulers, Triangles, T-Squares and Various Templates. For coloring, well I'm working on mastering photoshop, but I've got almost a full set of the Prisma Color markers and color pencils. Yep, I've got quite a bit in my arsenal of artistic weapons.
